Spliced with Circuitry

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Sure, we’ve already talked a little about “The Circuit” (aka LoFiSTL.com’s socnet); everyone is talking about The Circuit.  What you might not know is that we’re really excited about some of the periphery features of The Circuit.  Although it is really exciting to have a bunch of familiar faces on a local social network that isn’t the usually socnet hiding spots, what most interests me are the ways it can tie together the next generation local interwebnet (which, i’ll assume interests you, if only because you are here).

You’ve probably already noticed the standard faire of web integration Highway61 uses, but that list is expanding.  For instance, you can follow our continually expanding list of coffee links on del.icio.us between breaks.  To say nothing of blog logs, we’ll do our best to give you the heads up on what’s Upcoming.  Usually we just keep these things on our sidebar (look now, we’ll wait), but we’ll do our best to to keep you posted (heh).

“Summer…” mixtape update

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

For those of you still skittish about suppressive enforcement of outdated copyright laws, we have found a streaming music option for you.  But since Wordpress is equally skittish about imeem.com, this link to a streaming copy of the “Summer in the City” mixtape will have to suffice (along with side B).

Of course, those of you craving a mixtape you can actually take out to enjoy the summer weather with can still download both side A or side B of our mixtape (@ least for now).  And don’t forget that to win our drawing for a physical copy of the mixtape, you must enter a comment on the original “Summer in the City” mixtape post sometime before this new week has run through its spool.

Links with Your Coffee - 6/24

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

You know the downside of writing a local blog?  All these stories, links galore, and never enough time to write about them all much less actually check them out.  But because we love to pass on good things to our friends (ie readers), who unflailingly give us the heads up as well, we’d like to share a few of our favorites this past week.

As for coffee with these links, we’re wondering if any of our readers would like to join us over a cup.  We’d love to trade notes/links with you during one of our meetings, but maybe leaving a thought or two in the comments would suffice.  Until then, freshen your coffee with some link action?

48 Hour “Best of” screening

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

In case you missed last week’s screening from the 48 Hour Film Project, here’s a chance to redeem yourself.  According to our friends in the Film & Video Society, a “best of” screening of films in the project will take place this Thursday, June 21st from 7-10 pm @ the Tivoli Theater.  Films & ongoings are described thusly:

One great thing about the Best Of screening: they all don’t suck as much!  So please, come on down and check out what we made–apparently it’s really good!! Buy your tickets now! They WILL sell out.

And if that time doesn’t work out, don’t despair: there is an encore presentation @ 9:30 pm that same night.  A comprehensive list of finalist films can be found on the project’s blog, alonside some firsthand accounts of filming from contributers.

And as our friends are careful to remind you, you might want to purchase tickets beforehand.

“Yes I think it can be very easily done”…

Monday, May 21st, 2007

Ask people around St. Louis what Highway 61 means, and you’ll get a few different ideas (if not just puzzled looks):

1.)  Depending on the part of town, some people in St. Louis will coreectly identify a local stretch of US Route 61 on what could be any number of highways and interstates (you’ll really have to check the signs), including Lemay Ferry, Lindbergh/Kirkwood, and a large thrust of highway 40/I-64.  consult google maps for further such misadventures.

2.) A certain tradition of college graduates and students will immediately refer to the popular Bob Dylan record “Highway 61 Revisited“, which has seemingly been passed from generation to generation of students.  This seminal work of the influencial musician was also his most popular, and thusly still popular in circles all around town.

3.)  Just like you’ll get if you ask someone in St Louis for any directions, they’ll offer directions to the route even if they don’t have the least clue where to go…(seriously, try this)
