Book Sales (so good they’ll break your heart)
February 8th, 2008Ever since the closing of the used books business at Subterranean Books, there seems to have been a drought in new inventory of old books. With apologies to wider array of used book stores aside (Left Bank and Dunaway to name but a few), our thirst for a repository of knowledge that has been left out of print has gone unsatiated. So when I found this flyer for an Estate BOOK Sale this Saturday February 9th, 2008 from 9am-3pm, I knew it wouldn’t just be another garage sale. This literati (or pack rat) has left behind a diverse collection of historical non-fiction, classic lit, poetry, and maybe even sci-fi amoung other works for us to dig through in a sale listed as “Cash Only” on 6642 Bancroft (63109).
And should you save a few dollars left over from that sale, or if you’re looking to populate a rather different collection, Star Clipper Comics is having their annual Valentine’s Sale this Saturday as well. With 25% off everything in the store from 11am-1pm, and 50% off toys and apparel, you can hardly expect to to find the book you wanted in inventory while the sale continues with 20% for the rest of Saturday.

Matthew: Talking about book sales to a bibliophile who lives in the boonies of western Saskatchewan is truly cruel. Once a year our local library culls its shelves and there’s a sale but the pickings have grown increasingly slim over the years. Certainly nothing like the quality of stuff you’re going to turn up. Ah, well, it’s close to 40 below here with the wind chill tonight so I’ll just pour myself a stiff drink of Jameson’s Irish Whiskey (Sam Beckett’s drink of choice) and drown my sorrows…

I made it out to Star Clipper, and somehow justified the $35 purchase of Jeff Smith’s epic, BONE. I might be broke, but my thought is, if you’re going to buy something anyway, buy it on sale - don’t wait around forever until you have extra money. And because of this, one day I will surely be bankrupt with a complete anthology of every marvel comic ever published.

Actually, never mind, this was LAST Saturday. That’s what I get for being behind in my blog reading…

Chris - your devotion is admirable to say the least. Glad to hear you made the most of the sale.
Amy - Meh, even I miss a lot of blog entries over the weekend. Actually, web use drops off pretty dramatically accross the board on most weekends (in my experience)
